Hyoutan Namazu "Gourd and Catfish is a famous Japanese saying, which means slippery or elusive. The saying originates from the old painting of the Zen riddle, which depicts a man trying to catch a Catfish by using a Gourd. The gourd is a symbol of good fortune and has been used widely as a charm and an amulet of good luck. In Japan the catfish is a likable character and is commonly believe that catfish can predict earthquakes.
The is a unique limited edition of 200 pieces decorated by skilled artisan Seiki using refined Maki-e techniques. These include Togidashi Taka (Burnished-Raised) technique and Taka Maki-e (high relief) technique. Adorn with platinum powder and finally lacquered many layers to give the finishing touch.
